At this exhibition I’ll be showing my embroidered book ‘old and worn’. Many other Steekplus members are showing artbooks or other  ‘book’ works and I’m looking forward to seeing all their work and the work of the three guest exhibitors!

Aan deze expositie doe ik ook mee met mijn boekje ‘oud en versleten’. Er zijn artbooks en ander ‘boek’ werken te  zien van een flink aantal andere Steekplus leden en ik kijk er naar uit om hun werk en dat van de gast-exposanten te zien!

This is my contribution to the exhibition. It’s an ‘old and worn’ book with pieces of text from an old jumblesale book on the 17th century Dutch writer Vondel. Loosely woven embroidery linen has been dyed with Procion. Then I used drawn thread work, reworking some of the threads into the linen. I added embroidery and then placed the linen between layers of handmade paper. I then added more embroidery and pieces of text from the Vondel book. The finished book was very fragile because of the handmade paper, so I went over all the pages with hot beeswax, which made it very stiff and sturdy. I attached pieces of ribbon with which the book can be hung on the wall.

Dit is mijn bijdrage aan de expositie. Het is een ‘oud en versleten’ boekje met stukjes tekst uit een oud rommelmarktboek over Vondel. Grof borduurlinnen is eerst geverfd met Procion, daarna bewerkt door er draadjes uit te trekken en sommige van deze draadjes op een andere manier weer in te weven. Wat borduursel erop en de lapjes vervolgens tussen papier geschept. Wat meer stiksels toegevoegd en stukjes tekst uit het Vondel boek. Omdat het boekje nogal kwetsbaar was door het handgeschepte papier heb ik het ingesmeerd met hete bijenwas. Daardoor is het een stug, maar stevig boekje geworden. Ik heb er een aantal linten aan gemaakt, waarmee het opgehangen kan worden.
