a red glass

I’m working on my homework for my course. From a still life we made a collage and our homework was to turn this collage into a textile piece. The objects in the still life were a red bowl, a tea towel, an iron, three wine glasses, an apple and a spoon. I didn’t like this composition at all. The only objects I liked were the wine glasses and I liked the red of the bowl.So I started to work with the the glasses but I had no inspiration, so I made a collage as I needed something to show in the lesson. I had printed fabrics with words, describing the objects, but I wasn’t happy with it.

I decided to go with the wine glasses again and this is what I have so far. The glass is red because I liked the red of the bowl in the still life. The background is a mono print, or actually a ghostprint, that’s why it’s a little pale. The glass is also cut from a mono printed piece of fabric. And now I’m trying to think of a way to make this a pleasing piece. I’ve pinned it onto a black piece of fabric, in Photoshop I auditioned it on a light background. But I’ll leave it on my design wall, so to be continued… (or it might end up being ‘trashed’, not really, I hardly ever throw anything away as it might always come in use for something else. Only when my workplace becomes too cluttered, I sort things into ‘might still be useful’ and ‘definitely not going to be used again’).

So all in all I’m sort of struggling with this assignment, but I’m sure I’ll get there in the end!

Ik ben bezig met mijn huiswerk voor Quilten Speciaal. Van een stilleven hadden we een collage gemaakt en het huiswerk voor de volgende les was deze collage om te zetten in een textielwerk. De voorwerpen in het stilleven waren een rode schaal, een theedoek, een strijkijzer, drie wijnglazen, een appel en een lepel. Ik vond er niks aan. De enige voorwerpen die me aanspraken waren de wijnglazen en het rood van de schaal vond ik wel mooi. Dus bedacht ik iets te gaan maken met alleen de glazen. Maar ik had helemaal geen inspiratie. Voor de les heb ik toen toch maar snel een collage gemaakt, ik had lapjes bedrukt met de beschrijving van de voorwerpen van het stilleven, maar was er niet zo tevreden over.

Toch maar weer gaan proberen met de wijnglazen en dit is wat ik tot nog toe heb. Het glas is rood omdat ik het rood van de schaal in het stillleven mooi vond. De achtergrond is een monoprint, of eigenlijk een ‘ghost print’, daarom is hij vrij licht. Het glas is ook uit een ‘gemonoprint’ stofje geknipt. En nu moet ik gaan bedenken hoe ik hier iets toonbaars van ga maken. Ik heb het op een zwarte lap stof gespeld en in Photoshop heb ik ook een lichte achtergrond uitgeprobeerd. Maar voorlopig laat ik het maar op mijn ‘design wall’ hangen, dus wordt vervolgd… (of het belandt in de ‘vuilnisbak’, niet letterlijk want alles kan altijd nog van pas komen. Alleen wanneer mijn werkhoekje echt te vol wordt ga ik sorteren in ‘kan ik altijd nog een keer gebruiken’ en ‘dit kan wel weg’).

Ik zit dus eigenlijk waar wat te klungelen met deze opdracht van de cursus, maar uiteindelijk zal het wel lukken!
