portrait exhibition

A collegue of my husband gave him a flyer of an exhibition by Chuck Close, as he knew I made portraits and thought I’d like this exhibition. I found this website, with lots of information. The artist exhibits his portraits which are made using different printing techniques. He collaborates with for instance master printers, they print the portraits he has made, using many different techniques and materials. The curious fact is that this artist has a neurological problem, he cannot recognize faces. That’s why he builds up his portraits using a grid,  little pieces at a time. I find that very fascinating.

Een collega van Thijs was naar een tentoonstelling geweest van Chuck Close en had een flyer meegenomen om aan mij te laten zien, omdat hij wist dat ik portretten maakte. Ik vond deze website met informatie over deze kunstenaar. Deze Chuck Close maakt zijn portretten in samenwerking met bijvoorbeeld printexperts om ze door middel van allerlei druktechnieken en materialen uit te voeren. Het opmerkelijke feit is dat deze kunstenaar lijdt aan ‘gezichtsblindheid’, een neurologische afwijking, waarbij gezichten niet worden herkend. Daarom zijn de portretten uit hele kleine deeltjes van het gezicht opgebouwd, die hij één voor één bestudeert. Dat vind ik wel heel bijzonder.
